New parents often have millions of doubts. Common sense has lost a lot of strength lately and, as today there are instructions and science for everything, it is customary to doubt everything. Even when you are almost sure that you are right about something related to babies, you doubt because it is the first one you have and you think you may be wrong.
A question that they have asked me on occasions and that always makes me very funny is this that I comment today. Sometimes it is preceded by a "I think I'm going to ask you a slightly silly question", to which I answer that "there are no dumb questions, the dumb thing would be to keep the doubt", and then they tell me: How is it possible that a few minutes after starting to eat already poop?
The "desperate" breastfeeding on demand
The baby has just been born and they tell you that you have to give it on demand, when asked, before it even cries. You agree, of course. If they tell you that it is, who are you to doubt it. So you start feeding him when he wants and you soon realize that "on demand" is very frequent, that it is far from being the "every 3 hours" of a lifetime and that it can be a bit desperate.
Desperate because to many women nobody has explained that breastfeeding is like that, often, with shots that can be every hour and a half or two hours, but with shots that can be half an hour after the previous one, sometimes.
Of course, they see themselves there with the baby all day hooked and begin to see that feeding a baby is harder than they thought. Then they see, in addition, that a few minutes after getting hooked they are already pooping and then despair increases Are you already shitting what you are eating?
The poop is not from milk now, it is from before
They believe, in their tiredness of a novelty whose dedication they did not know, that the baby begins to breastfeed and that minutes later, when he squeezes and stains the diaper, he is letting go of the same milk he is drinking. Of course, if it lasts so little, just a few minutes, "this will never end," they think.
But no, there comes my answer, when I tell them that breast milk is digested in about 90 minutes, because it is such an excellent food that it is digested very fast, and that consequently, when they squeeze, when they fall, they are getting rid of the remains of the previous shot.
The reason that happens while eating is that your digestive system starts, the stomach receives food, the intestine is activated and, as it starts moving, it releases ballast to continue doing its functions.
The thing does not change much, but at least take advantage of it
Actually, the answer does not change the event much. Babies still poop when they eat, but the mother, at least, is left with the feeling that your milk takes a little more. If it were as fast as eating and releasing it, many mothers would think "my mother, so much breastfeeding, so much to ask for, and it lasts only a few minutes."
At least, these mothers who dare to ask are left with the truth and calmer. If for fear of asking a question they are left with the doubt, many will continue to think that this of giving the tit is very hard because of what has already been said.
