Nutrition standards for school food

The rate of childhood obesity in the US is quite alarming, on occasion we have mentioned it in Babies and more. Efforts are intensifying, now the US health authorities have just provided a list of foods considered unhealthy found in schools, whether in vending machines, coffee shops, etc.

Apparently there is no regulation on these foods within schools, in that aspect Spain wins the hand of the United States, as several initiatives and the vending sector itself renews such food. Currently 70% of these vending machines in schools offer healthy products and soon 100% are expected.

North America must face the problem of obesity and must begin with the schools, hence last Wednesday a new guide was released, Nutrition standards for school food: Guide for a healthier youth. In it you can find all kinds of highly recommended and beneficial advice that will be interesting as long as they are seconded by the entire child population, for this parents and educators should put all their efforts if they do not want children to be obese future. In the last 20 years the American child population has experienced a very notable increase in obesity, in 2004 the rate was around 19% of children between 6 and 11 years. Nine out of ten vending machines found in Schools offer non-recommended food, given this, it is clear that efforts against obesity in this country are not strong enough.

Obesity and overweight are problems that must be addressed with all urgency, otherwise the next generations will enjoy a poor quality of life, health will be truncated. The guide is accessible online.
