A study reveals that using the mobile phone during pregnancy does not affect the brain development of the baby in the future

Maybe some years ago we would never have thought that our mobile phone could become a useful tool during our pregnancy. It helps us keep track of our appointments and we can keep track of it through applications that have been created with this beautiful stage in mind and more.

However, some years ago it was reported that the use of mobile phones during pregnancy could have negative consequences, such as causing behavior disorders in children in the future.

Now a study could prove otherwise, by discovering that in reality mobile use during pregnancy does not affect the brain development of the baby in the future.

Due to concerns about mobile phone use during pregnancy, researchers from Norway conducted a study to see if using them really affected communication skills, language and psychomotor development in the future of the kids.

For this they used the data of a Norwegian registry called MoBa, in which 45,389 mothers had participated during their pregnancy between the years of 1999 and 2008. From those records they obtained the information about the frequency of mobile phone use During pregnancy and through questionnaires they investigated the development of children in the areas mentioned at 3 and 5 years of age.

Of the total number of mothers who participated in the study, 9.8% reported that they had not used the telephone during their pregnancy, while 39% were classified as having a lower amount of use, 46.9% of medium use and 4.3% as users with High frequency of use.

The children of mothers who used the mobile phone during pregnancy had a 17% lower risk of presenting less language ability at three years, compared to the children of those mothers who did not use it.

It was also found that the children of mothers who did use the mobile phone during their pregnancy had a lower risk of having low motor skills at three years, compared to the children of those who did not use it. However, this association was not found at 5 years.

In short, the researchers they did not find any association between cell phone use during pregnancy and low communication capacity in children. Nor did they find any negative effect of mobile phone use on fetal neurological development.

Something that is important to mention is that previous studies that reported that mobile use was harmful to the baby were performed using mice, while mothers and human children participated in this new study.

Thus, We can be calm and continue using our mobile phone during pregnancy, although like any device, pregnant or not, we must use it with measure.
