The Basque Country is the community with the highest risk of childhood asthma

As indicated by a specialist in childhood pulmonology at the Hospital de Basurto, in the Basque Country the risks of a child suffering from asthma are much greater than in the rest of the Spanish communities. A survey conducted last year in Guipúzcoa showed that up to 26% of children aged 6 to 12 years suffered an asthma episode, without a doubt, it is a very high figure and to take into account, especially by parents They live in that community.

The explanation offered by the expert is as follows: the wettest places, where there is more pollution and the areas with the greatest number of mites are the main causes. Therefore, on a smaller to larger scale the prevalence of asthma is lower in the central communities of the country, higher in the coastal areas and, much higher in the Basque country because several of the causes that favor asthma converge. Asthma significantly decreases the quality of life of a child and parents must become truly aware of it. Trying to follow the treatment faithfully, discarding those habits that seriously harm children, such as tobacco, clarifying the fears that parents can have regarding the negative effect that their children's medication can produce, among others, are aspects that should be considered and that can improve the quality of life of children.

On some occasions we have talked in Babies and more about childhood asthma, we remember an American study that showed the same problem, fear of the negative effects of medication. In the post The fear of parents hinders therapy against childhood asthma the following reflection could be made, the effects of asthma are worse than those that could produce drugs, the most logical option is that which allows the child to enjoy more quality of life.
