"Taking the baby in the car without buckling is like leaving him at home with a loaded gun"

I was struck by this phrase pronounced by Marco Vargas, the head of the Trauma Unit of the National Children's Hospital of Costa Rica. Although the comparison sounds strong, we cannot deny that he is right.

The intention of his words is to make parents aware of the importance of taking safe children in the car through the campaign "For love, buckle them up". It reminds us that taking the child with the appropriate child restraint systems is not a luxury, but an obligation.

To be clearer, the statistics speak for themselves. 75% of people shot out of the car in a collision die, while 80% are left with permanent neurological injuries and only 25% survive.

Taking into account that many parents take the children without tying in the car with excuses such as that the route is short, or that the child does not want to be tied, it is well worth remembering at that time the doctor's words.

Having a loaded gun at home we run the risk of being shot and the child is seriously injured, or worse, dies. We run the same risk by leaving the child untied or badly tied in the car. Fatalities can occur when you least expect it. It is best to avoid them, and that is our responsibility as parents.
