Babies admitted to the NICU of the Hospital Clínic also disguise themselves for Carnival

With the idea of humanizing the care of babies admitted to the ICU, most of them premature, the neonatology service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona has launched a beautiful initiative that emerged from the hospital's team of nurses and volunteers.

They decided to disguise the 17 newborn babies who remain admitted "in order to involve parents so they can celebrate this holiday despite being in a hospital, just like the rest of the parents do."

Disconnection and joy

The time that a baby spends in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is usually a difficult time for the whole family, while they wait for their baby to continue growing and developing in order to go home.

The days get very long for parents and babies. Some have long stays in which the days become eternal, so a special day is appreciated to disconnect from the routine and spread joy.

“Today was a different day. A day of disconnection that gives you more joy and more life, ”says Anna, mother of a newborn. Another mother adds that "it is a fun initiative after so many years of admission."

The costumes were made by hand by a team of volunteers from the hospital and then gave them to parents as a souvenir. They were dressed as lion, giraffe, snail, dinosaur, boxer, crab ...

"All those ideas, initiatives made by the strongest parents, we will do," says the head of nursing at the hospital. And he is sure it will be repeated next year, because the parents were delighted.
