Gynecologists, pediatricians and pathologists are part of the new Doctor Peset University Hospital in Valencia Preconception Council Unit. This team works to reduce the incidence of health problems in newborns, whether they are congenital diseases, disabilities, etc.

The specialists study couples who want to get pregnant, and if they detect any risk factor that could harm the baby or the mother, they are referred to this new unit, where they are informed of possible remedies and treatments before pregnancy.

This unit is also responsible for receiving and advising patients who come from the Prenatal Diagnostic Unit, if the couple has or has had a baby with some type of anatomical malformation or any chromosomal alteration, they assess the risk that in the next pregnancy happen again. Couples receive from specialists the options they have to prevent malformations, then it is they who decide if they will have more children.

Heart disease, malformations of the digestive system and chromosomal abnormalities, some of the most frequent malformations, are the main ones that this unit intends to detect.
